Welcome to Woodland Stays Kernow.  Two great spaces for a relaxing break away in the heart of Bodmin Moor, centred around our home - The Old School at Trekeive Steps.

Built in 1876, The School provided an education service for local families. Back in those days most trade was Farming, so not very many children attended since it was more expected that children worked on the farms when needed.  Therefore the school recieved very little attendance.  Not much is written about the school, but we believe it was closed as a school at some point in the 1920's, used as a meeting room during the war and then fell into disrepair until it was purchased and turned into the house it is now in 1950 (ish).  The additional piece of land was purchased in 1980, when the house was owned by the son of Marjorie Blamey - a famous botanical illustrator.  Robin Blamey ran a car repair business specialising in MG's, and we beileve the grounds were inspired by his mothers work, given the extensive planting and interlinking ponds uncovered when we moved in.  The house was rented out for a few years until Neil and Lesa purchased the house in 2017.  Neil had watched too much Grand designs and we've been slowly getting the grounds into shape.  We've subsequently added the Shepherds hut and studio as Holiday rentals for all to enjoy.

The Picture, left shows an early picture of the house when it was a school.  Notice the lack of trees around and the very old cars nearby.

Also noteworthy is the lack of downstairs windows, which we find interesting - presumably to stop the children getting distracted by the outside!

The remains and outline of those upstairs windows can still be see outside and inside.  To date the upstairs (it would have all been one hall as a school) is still un developed, with all the original beamwork to see.

To the Right, as the house is now.  Note that the bottom windows were installed and the top ones deleted.  The chimney is also gone from the front (the fireplace remains) .

Theres also a few more trees around these days!

Wood Fired hot tub - Dowr Gwel
"Really peaceful place to stay, the river is alot closer than you'd expect and having the experience of laying in that hammock listening to the water was just great. Just a really relaxing place to be" (Ciaran, Aug 24)
"Just beautiful in every way! A very peaceful location. Our little dog enjoyed exploring the secure garden which was perfect whilst we relaxed in the hot tub. Plenty of walks nearby too. Lesa & Neil were helpful and responsive to any messages. We have already recommended to friends & family. Thank you both!" (Emily, July 24)
